My period came back?

by Sue
(Tennessee)

Its been over a year and close to a year and a half that I had my last period. This morning I woke up and it had started. Should I go have this checked. I am recently unemployed and have no health insurance. Advice anyone?

If you missed your period for 12 straight months, without other obvious causes, than you are at menopause. Getting your period after menopause can be a result of hormonal fluctuations. In general, it is nothing to worry about. Some women report having menstrual episodes years after menopause. It is recommended though to see a doctor if your periods come very close together, if you have heavy bleeding or spotting, and if your periods last more than a week.
