Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin is a squash of the genus Cucurbita in the family Cucurbitaceae.

Pumpkins range in size (less than 1 pound to over 1,000 pounds), shape, color (usually orange or yellow, sometimes dark green, pale green, orange-yellow, white, red, gray), and appearance (smooth or ribbed).

Pumpkin seeds, also known as "pepitas", are flat, dark green seeds. Some are encased in a yellow-white husk, although some have no shells.

History and Folklore

The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which in Greek means "large melon".

  • The French adapted this word to pompon.

  • The British changed to pumpion.

  • Later on, American colonists changed that to the word we use today, pumpkin.

  • It is believed that pumpkins have originated in North America. The oldest evidence of pumpkin seeds, dating between 7000 and 5500 B.C., were found in Mexico. They are still a special hallmark of traditional Mexican cuisine.

  • The Native American Indians treasured pumpkin seeds for their dietary and medicinal properties.

My Home Remedies Solutions

I recommend these delicious seeds to treat menopausal insomnia.
