Romance At Senior Age
If you watch a lot of movies, you might come to the wrong conclusion that romance happens only in your 20's. All those sweet love stories on the big screen involve mostly young people, even teenagers, so you might think that the concept of romance after 50 could be completely out of question. You are so far from the truth! Romance at senior age not only is possible, but could be the sweetest of all romances in your life.
Part of this wrongful thinking lays in the two major misconceptions about senior citizens. First one is that they are not capable of sexual activity. Nothing could be further from the truth. Sexuality is a healthy component of adult life at all phases of our maturity and people in their 50's are just as capable of sexuality in their relationships as teenagers; albeit probably good deal more careful.
The second misconception is that even if sexuality is not part of the mix, seniors are not romantic people, therefore romance at senior age does not exist. If anything, the opposite is the truth. If anyone tracked the movie rental patterns of senior citizens, they would witness that older people have a healthy appetite for romantic comedies. This tells us that they have a healthy interest in romantic relationships.
Retirement is a time of rebirth of the concept of romance. Married couples may have seen the romance diminish in their relationship during the child raising years due to pressures of raising them, as well as work and other social pressures, as stress can take away the emotional and mental energy needed for romance. Therefore, when a marriage matures into retirement years together, senior citizens rediscover why they fell in love in the first place and experience a new era of romance that is fun and thrilling for both.
Single people over 50 are perfectly capable of looking for romantic times with others of their own generation. Most of them are well equipped to enjoy an active dating life and enjoy romantic that enriches their lives and keep them upbeat and happy.
Moreover, seniors have the time and the leisure to nurture their romantic relationships, as the suspense of building a romance makes it full of excitement. Dating and enjoying romantic times with the opposite sex also provide much needed companionship at this stage of life.
