Why Am I So Moody?

by Daria
(New York)

My menopause problems are insomnia and hot flashes at night. I wake up drenched in sweat and I don't get enough sleep. Lately I became extremely moody. I am wondering if the mood swings are caused by menopause or maybe there is a connection between sleep deprivation and mood?

Researchers have confirmed that hormones have an effect on brain's chemistry that controls emotions and mood. Hormone imbalance at menopause causes mood swings. From other point of view, mood changes may occur due to lack of sleep. Menopausal hot flashes and night sweats can interfere with getting a good night sleep. Medication, herbal remedies and diet changes may reduce or even eliminate hot flashes and result in improved mood and sleep.
